Whanau Nohinohi said farewell to Matua Carl today. We will miss him. We hope he and his family have a great time in Gisborne.

Whaea Bev

A big thank you to Whaea Bev who has been a big part of Room 3 this year. Whaea Bev has come and helped us two, sometimes three times a week. It's been great and we hope we see you next year.

Whaea Bev came on Monday.

She brought everything we needed to make paper chains. 




You needed both your hands and sometimes they weren't enough.

Wellington Zoo

Last Friday we got on the buses and went to Wellington Zoo.

We saw lots of animals.

" The monkey pooed in his bed." said Danny.

 The Meerkats were watching from the big rocks for birds."said Tehina.

"the giraffes tongue was purple said Danny, " and he was hungry

We had a great time and would like to say thank you to everyone who helped us raise the money to go and to those who came on the trip with us.

Animals. not Animals

We know there will be animals at the Zoo. But what is an animal?

We decided an animal can

• run, jump, hop, walk = move
• eat
• roar, baa, neigh =talk
• some can lay eggs 

and they can sleep.

Ali said. 
" A lion is an animal and it said to the ball " you're not an animal and it kicked it away".


Janita said
" A cat is an animal . A car is not an animal beacuse it drives.

Tehina said
" A bumble bee is an animal. A hoola hoop is not an animal because it is a toy".

Wacky Wednesday

Visitors

Last Tuesday on our open day Amelia and her mum came to visit for the first time. Here she is with the tiger face she made.

Thank you Dulux for the makeover

The inside of our hall looks amazing - thanks to Dulux and the parents who came to help paint.

 And as well as the painting they gave us a sausage sizzle -.

They are growing!

Great news our sunflowers are growing!

   







First we could just see little bits of green.

 Can you see the green in this pot? ( It's not a very good picture. Whaea Angela wants a better camera for christmas!)

Then they got a little bigger and we could see leaves.







Now look at them. We are going to take them home and put them in our gardens.

I wonder how tall they will get?

Armistice Day

Sadly this year it was raining for our Armistice Day celebrations so everyone was in the hall. That meant that we didn't see Aliya help Lahela place the wreath by the flagpole. Aliya was chosen because she is the youngest person at Russell School and Lahela, because she is the oldest.

Hot water

The warmer weather means we can play outside with the water trays.
The boys didn't like the cold water but they discovered that the water was hot when they poured it on the metal grates in the concrete. They didn't think they could warm all the water this way. Whaea Angela will have to go to the staffroom and get some hot water next time.

Spiderman, Spiderman, Spiderwoman

Dominic, he's the one in the middle under the mask, thought it would be fun to wear his spiderman suit to school.
He asked his friends Ezra and Aliya if they wanted to wear theirs.

On Friday we had two spiderman and one spiderwoman in our class.

WOW!

Mr Sam - Harry Samuela, Teacher and special friend of Russell School

Yesterday we got some very sad news that our friend and teacher Mr Sam- Harry Samuela, passed away on Tuesday 8th November.

Among the many things Mr Sam did at Russell School, was to set up the class blogs.



Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Another milestone !
